What are Snap on Dentures?

Snap on dentures are a refreshing change from standard teeth replacement option for people with missing teeth and struggle with their basic functions of chewing and speaking.

Snap-on dentures are more stable and less likely to slip while eating.

Instead of resting on the gum line, these are attached to implants, which provide a strong anchorage to the dentures.

Snap in or snap on dentures are removable, dentures that clasp or snap on to dental implants.

This provides increased stability and comfort along with a well-crafted smile.

They feel, look and act as close to natural teeth as possible.

Dental implants act as the support for the snap-on dentures.

We, at ADC offer both upper and lower jaw snap on dentures.

Procedure for Snap on Dentures

Here is a brief overview of the procedure:

Initial consultation:

  • A dentist will review your medical and dental history to ensure your safety.
  • X-rays and impressions are taken of your teeth to get all the information and to make models.
  • After this, a temporary denture is given to you until a permanent one can be created.

First Surgery: Placing Implants in the Jawbone

  • After anesthetizing the patient, a hole is drilled in the bone for implant placement.
  • A titanium screw is inserted as an artificial tooth root.
  • It takes three to six months for bone and implant fusion.

Second Surgery: Exposing Implant Heads

  • After verifying the successful implant and bone fusion, healing caps are placed to guide gum healing.
  • Caps stay for ten to fourteen days before regular abutments are placed.

Denture try-in and insertion:

Metal bars are placed, and then after confirming the correct fit of the dental framework, the denture is snapped onto the attachments.

FAQ

Is there any discomfort after getting snap on dentures?

You may experience minor discomfort for a day or two but you’ll gradually get used to your new Overdentures.

I have dental anxiety, is there a solution?

In case a person has dental anxiety or fear of dental procedures we do offer sedation dentistry (Nitrous Oxide/ IV Sedation) as an option at an extra price.

Where do I stay for my treatment?

How long does implant procedure take?

After securing your jawbone with titanium tooth roots, osseointegration process takes 3-6 months. In the second phase of the surgery, the gums are exposed for fitting the healing caps and are given 12-14 days to heal.

Abutments are attached after 14 days and teeth impressions are taken to make a model of your jaws.

Will the food get caught in my snap on dentures, like traditional dentures?

Overdentures are much more stable than traditional dentures and thus, the denture movement is minimized during eating or chewing. This also leads to less food getting trapped inside the overdentures.

To minimize the problem of food getting trapped, remember, the fabrication of the overdenture should be high-quality and it should fit well on the implants.

This only lessens the problem and does not ensure total elimination of food getting trapped underneath.

Taking Care of Snap on Dentures

Taking care of your snap on dentures is much the same as caring for traditional dentures. It includes:

  • Removing and rinsing the snap-on dentures after eating so that the food debris is removed from on or under the denture.
